Llandudno Guide

Llandudno's cottages with hot tubs offer a perfect base for exploring North Wales' largest seaside resort. The Victorian town sits dramatically between the Great Orme and Little Orme headlands, with a sweeping bay and Wales' longest pier (2295 feet).

The area boasts excellent attractions including the Great Orme Tramway (TripAdvisor's #1), Llandudno Pier and the historic Conwy Castle just 5 miles away. Alice in Wonderland connections are everywhere - Lewis Carroll met the real Alice (Alice Liddell) here in 1861.

Cottage options range from traditional stone buildings to modern seafront apartments. Many feature private hot tubs where you can relax after exploring the town's famous Victorian architecture and promenade.

Group cottages accommodate families or friends, while couples can find romantic retreats. Most hot tub cottages provide excellent self-catering facilities, private parking and easy access to Llandudno's famous North Shore Beach.

Sightseeing

Llandudno packs tons of attractions into a compact area. The Great Orme is unmissable - take the UK's only cable-hauled street tramway (LL30 2NB, open 10am-6pm April-October) to the summit for amazing views across to Snowdonia and Anglesey. TripAdvisor score: 4.5/5 from over 3,200 reviews.

Llandudno Pier stretches 2,295ft into the bay and houses arcades, food stalls and shops. It's free to enter and open daily from 10am (closing times vary seasonally). TripAdvisor score: 4.5/5 from 3,800+ reviews.

History fans should visit Conwy Castle (LL32 8AY), just 5 miles away. This 13th century fortress has incredibly preserved walls and towers. Open daily 9:30am-5pm, it scores 4.5/5 from 5,400+ TripAdvisor reviews.

The Alice in Wonderland Trail takes you around town following bronze statues and plaques. Pick up a free map from the tourist information centre on Mostyn Street. Kids love finding all the characters!

Pet Friendly

Many Llandudno cottages welcome dogs and the area is brilliant for pet holidays. West Shore Beach allows dogs year-round, while North Shore Beach has seasonal restrictions (May-September) but permits dogs on certain sections.

The Great Orme offers fantastic dog walks with miles of paths. The Happy Valley gardens (LL30 2QL) welcome dogs on leads. For longer walks, try the Wales Coast Path which passes right through town.

When you're hungry, The Cottage Loaf pub (LL30 2SR) has a dog-friendly bar area and outdoor seating. They even provide water bowls and treats. The Kings Head (LL30 2NN) also welcomes dogs and serves good pub grub.

I recommend bringing towels specifically for your dog - especially if you've been to the beach. Many cottages with hot tubs have enclosed gardens, perfect for letting your dog run safely while you enjoy the tub!

Top 3 attractions you have to see in Llandudno

The Great Orme Country Park dominates Llandudno's landscape. This massive limestone headland rises 679ft above sea level. Take the Victorian tramway or the cable car for spectacular views. At the top, visit the Summit Complex with its restaurant and gift shop. Don't miss the ancient copper mines (LL30 2XG) - they date back 4,000 years to the Bronze Age and offer fascinating underground tours. One visitor told me: "The mine tour was incredible - our 8-year-old talked about it for days!"

Bodafon Farm Park (LL30 3BB) is perfect for families. This working farm has free entry and houses rare breed cattle, deer, llamas and birds of prey. The birds of prey flying displays happen at 2pm daily (weather permitting). There's a great café serving homemade food using local produce. A recent visitor wrote: "We spent 3 hours here and the kids were thoroughly entertained. The flying display was amazing!"

Venue Cymru (LL30 1BB) is North Wales' premier theatre and conference centre. It hosts everything from West End musicals to comedy shows and concerts. The building also houses Oriel Mostyn, a contemporary art gallery with regularly changing exhibitions. Check their website before your visit as many shows sell out quickly. The theatre has a restaurant with pre-show dining options and great views across the bay.

What's the best time to visit Llandudno?

May to September offers the warmest weather (15-20°C) and most attractions are open. However, April and October are less crowded and often have lovely weather. Winter visits (November-March) are quieter but many attractions have reduced hours or close completely. That said, a winter hot tub experience with views of snow-capped mountains can be magical!

Do I need a car in Llandudno?

Not necessarily. The town centre, beaches, Great Orme and most attractions are walkable. Good bus services connect to Conwy, Colwyn Bay and Bangor. Trains run to Conwy and along the North Wales coast. However, a car gives you freedom to explore Snowdonia National Park and more remote beaches.

Where can I park in Llandudno?

Most cottages provide private parking. Town centre pay-and-display car parks include Mostyn Broadway (LL30 1YL, £7/day) and Victoria Centre (LL30 2NG, £6.50/day). Some on-street parking is available but often time-limited. The Great Orme has several car parks including one at the Summit Complex.

What beaches are near Llandudno?

North Shore Beach is the main beach - a wide, sandy bay with the pier and promenade. West Shore Beach is quieter with great sunset views. Both are within walking distance of most cottages. Within driving distance, try Conwy Morfa (sandy, 5 miles), Penmaenmawr (pebbly, 8 miles) or Colwyn Bay (sandy, 6 miles).

Where can I eat in Llandudno?

For fish and chips, try Fish Tram Chips (LL30 2NB) near the tram station. The Cottage Loaf (LL30 2SR) serves excellent pub food. For something special, try Mermaid Restaurant (LL30 2LP) for seafood or Carlo's Restaurant (LL30 2TY) for Italian. Most restaurants get busy in summer - book ahead if possible.

What if it rains during my Llandudno stay?

Plenty of indoor options! Visit Home Front Museum (LL30 2LP) for 1940s nostalgia, Llandudno Museum (LL30 2UB) for local history, or the Great Orme Mines. Venue Cymru often has matinee performances. Of course, there's always your cottage hot tub - even better in the rain!
